Evidence summary

Considering the effects of a Pilates physical activity intervention on quality of life outcome, Fleming et al demonstrated a statistically significant large improvement in the mental health dimension of HRQoL (Δ = 1.47, 95%CI: 0.47, 2.47; z = 2.89, p ≤ 0.004, n = 155) and a large nonsignificant improvement in overall HRQoL (Δ = 0.79, 95%CI: −0.04, 1.61; z = 1.87, p > 0.06, n = 251) (1).

Clinical opinion and limited evidence support the use of physical activity to improve quality of life in people with anxiety. Further high-quality trials are needed.
